Biography

Born of the lineage of Draugluin, the first of the werewolves, Carcharoth was hand-fed by Morgoth himself with living flesh and imbued with hellish power.

He stood as the unsleeping guardian of the Gates of Angband, a colossal terror whose eyes glowed like coals and whose breath was a poisonous vapor. No creature, save perhaps Huan the Hound of Valinor, could match his ferocity in the First Age.

Legacy

The memory of the "Great Hunt of the Wolf" remains one of the most tragic yet heroic tales of the Elder Days. It led to the final confrontation in the Valley of Esgalduin.

  • The tragic sacrifice of Huan, the Captain of Hounds.
  • The retrieval of the Silmaril from the beast's belly.
  • Defined the boundaries of destiny for Beren and Lúthien.
